The Yale Secretariat for YMUN Korea XII

why yale mun korea?

Now in its twelfth year, Yale Model United Nations Korea (Yale MUN Korea) has established itself as a premier conference on the East Asian Model UN circuit. Yale-affiliated Model United Nations conferences across the globe continue to be some of the largest and most prestigious conferences in the high school Model UN circuit worldwide. Yale MUN Korea brings this experience to delegates in Seoul, Korea to further spread the Yale MUN educational mission through simulations of the United Nations.

Yale MUN Korea is distinguished by its deep commitment to promoting global citizenship and fostering an educational environment in which delegates can engage in the world's most pressing international relations issues.

  1. Top-Quality Committees: Yale MUN Korea takes pride in providing a space for students to learn about international affairs and master skills necessary in international diplomacy. Yale MUN Korea emphasizes academic rigor, providing highly informational topic guides, delegate training, and high-level debate. Committee Directors are deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the topics of debate they select, and they are dedicated to interacting with delegates, helping them refine their understanding of the issues and their skills in committee.

  2. Dedicated Staff: Yale MUN Korea brings the best of Yale to Seoul to create the most professional and engaging conference. The diversity of our staff is one of the conference's greatest assets; hailing from different countries all over the world and countless programs of study, each individual brings his or her own unique perspective on international affairs to the conference. Our staff is also highly experienced; all are members of the Yale International Relations Association, and most have years of Model UN experience at both the high school and collegiate levels.

  3. Exceptional Programming: Yale MUN Korea strives to enhance delegates’ learning experiences in an impactful and enjoyable way through its conference programming. Aside from the excellent in-committee experience, Yale MUN Korea offers additional educational and social programming to expand the delegate and adviser experience. The conference features events ranging from a Yale Admissions Informational Session to engaging guest speakers, skill-building workshops, presentations, and social events at which delegates can make relationships that will last a lifetime.

  4. What’s New in Yale MUN Korea Committees?: In emphasizing the educational aspect of Yale MUN Korea which sets it apart from other conferences across the world, beginner committees will now feature an intensive training program led by highly experienced MUN delegates-turned-directors. Novice delegates who may be experiencing MUN for the very first time will be introduced to the wide set of skills that will allow them to grow and succeed as diplomats while returning delegates will have the chance to further sharpen their abilities. Yale MUN Korea will also be offering a crisis committee for the first time on the advanced tier to expose delegates already comfortable with MUN to a novel form of debate.

Yale MUN Korea's Approach to Model UN

Yale Model United Nations Korea fundamentally differs from other Model UN conferences in Asia due to its unique approach to facilitating debate and collaboration. We utilize the UNA-USA Model UN approach, which emphasizes in-committee cooperation and building critical thinking skills under pressure. Furthermore, our smaller committee sizes and focus on inter-delegate interaction allow delegates to experience intense cross-cultural exchange and challenges to consensus among parties with vastly differing interests. Delegates will be encouraged to practice personal diplomacy and negotiation skills in the spirit of international cooperation.

THE YALE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS ASSOCIATION
